Can’t put it back together now…

So it’s 2018. Which means we should make a fresh start; try something new; be adventurous; be brave; throw caution to the wind…so many cliches? But hey why not? Phil and I are nothing if not always willing to jump off the ledge.

As many of you know, we tend to not let our roots take too much of a hold, at least as it applies to the roof over our heads. The roots run deep and strong for Cincinnati. But not necessarily the house. So, yep, you guessed it. We are moving.

But first we have to build it.

We have bought and sold many houses – a handful of which we have called home. 100-year-old homes with great bones, skeletons, hidden mysteries and stories to share. We’ve been wanting to build from scratch for the last several years. Just needed to find the right location, the right moment.

So let the demo begin. Our very first investment property that we rehabbed together years ago (pre-two little boys) was a cute little 1.5 story, 2-bed, 1-bath bungalow in Oakley. Our only property that we held onto and rented. Rented to wonderful tenants. It was a nice little nest egg. And we kept meaning to sell it.

I whole-heartedly believe that things happen for a reason. There was a reason we could not let go of this little gem. Because it was meant to be the home for our little family some day.

Some day appears to be now. You are right, we did just move into my “dream” ranch less than two years ago. Yes Phil poured his heart and soul, blood, sweat and tears into renovating our home. I did get to outfit the 1960, slab bunker with all of my organizing tools and a little mid-century modern design. But the itch wouldn’t go away. We were missing sidewalks, being able to walk to a hub of activity, restaurants, stores, the library, ice cream, a toy store, a brewery. We missed being close to the city, the hub. I mean come on, we have two boys – 4 and 1.5 years old. Our life revolves around them. So why not surround ourselves with what we need right now.

So that sweet little bungalow is the footprint for our new home. It served us well. And will now allow us to start from scratch and put our design, organizing and contractor ideas to work. Go!*

*So stay tuned. I am going to try really hard to blog about this project on a regular basis as progress and life allows. I hope to share the construction process, our design style and my organizing principles. Would love your feedback.
